Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Chief Lending Officer (CLO), Rochdale Capital is seeking a mission-driven Senior Loan Officer to lead loan underwriting, portfolio management, credit risk assessment, and borrower relationship management. This position is primarily responsible for evaluating new lending opportunities, conducting financial analysis, preparing credit recommendations, monitoring portfolio performance, and managing credit risk across the loan portfolio.
While the role includes maintaining referral relationships and participating in targeted business development activities, its primary focus is ensuring sound credit decisions, effective portfolio oversight, strong portfolio performance, and successful borrower outcomes. The ideal candidate possesses strong financial analysis skills, sound credit judgment, and experience evaluating, underwriting, and managing small business, nonprofit, commercial, affordable housing, or community development loans.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Relationship Management (15%)
- Develop and maintain relationships with prospective borrowers, existing borrowers, referral partners, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Respond to loan inquiries and conduct borrower intake, screening, and prequalification.
- Represent Rochdale Capital at conferences, community meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
- Promote Rochdale Capital's lending products, programs, and impact within its investment areas and place-based cities.
- Identify lending opportunities that align with Rochdale Capital's mission and strategic objectives.
Credit Analysis & Underwriting (30%)
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, operating budgets, collateral information, and other underwriting materials.
- Assess borrower repayment capacity, management strength, project feasibility, business performance, and overall credit risk.
- Structure loan terms and conditions that meet borrower needs while aligning with organizational risk standards and mission objectives.
- Prepare comprehensive credit memoranda, financial analyses, and loan recommendations for internal review and approval.
- Present loan opportunities, transaction structures, and credit recommendations to management and the Loan Committee.
- Guide applicants through documentation requirements, eligibility criteria, and the lending process.
- Provide technical assistance and advisory support to borrowers to enhance loan readiness and financial capacity.
Portfolio Management & Risk Monitoring (45%)
- Manage the loan portfolio and maintain regular communication with borrowers throughout the life of the loan.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify potential risks, emerging issues, and early warning indicators.
- Review borrower financial reporting, covenant compliance, and other loan agreement requirements.
- Conduct annual loan reviews, risk assessments, and ongoing portfolio monitoring activities.
- Administer loan modifications, extensions, renewals, restructurings, and workout strategies when appropriate.
- Collaborate with borrowers and staff to address credit concerns and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct site visits and borrower meetings as needed to evaluate operations, project progress, and overall loan performance.
Reporting & Data Management (5%)
- Maintain accurate records in lending, CRM, loan management, and reporting systems.
- Prepare reports for management, funders, investors, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, lending procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Team Collaboration & Organizational Support (5%)
- Work closely with lending, compliance, operations, finance, and the Board Loan Committee to facilitate effective loan origination, underwriting, and portfolio management.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of lending products, underwriting practices, portfolio management processes, and organizational policies.
- Support strategic initiatives and special projects that advance Rochdale Capital's mission and impact objectives.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Community Development, Real Estate, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, small business lending, affordable housing finance, nonprofit lending, community development finance, credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio management, banking, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing financial statements, assessing credit risk, and preparing credit recommendations.
- Experience underwriting and managing commercial, nonprofit, affordable housing, real estate, community development, or small business loans.
- Experience managing borrower relationships throughout the loan lifecycle, from origination through repayment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a CDFI, community development organization, bank, credit union, cooperative lender, or other mission-driven financial institution.
- Knowledge of affordable housing, community facilities, commercial real estate, nonprofit finance, cooperative development, or small business lending.
- Experience presenting loan recommendations to loan committees, credit committees, or senior management.
- Experience with CRM systems, loan origination platforms, and portfolio management systems.
- Experience providing technical assistance, financial coaching, or advisory services to borrowers.

- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid work environment with periodic travel for borrower meetings, site visits, conferences, and community engagement activities.
- Occasional evening or weekend events may be required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel within Rochdale Capital's service area.
Employment Details
Location: Arlington, VA and hybrid (in office Tuesday and/or Wednesday).
